The project partner SHINE 2Europe brought GUARDIANS to the first EU Rural Innovation Forum (EU-RIF) organized by the fellow EU project FUTURAL.

As rural innovation takes centre stage across Europe, the GUARDIANS project emerges as a compelling example of how tailored digital solutions can empower small and medium-sized farms.

The project’s approach was recently discussed by Natália Machado, Project Director at SHINE 2Europe, alongside other initiatives during the first FUTURAL European Rural Innovation Forum (EU-RIF) in Spain. SHINE 2Europe was invited to contribute to the session “Networking & Building Synergies with Other Rural Innovators”, and GUARDIANS was mentioned as addressing one of agriculture’s most pressing challenges: the growing technological divide between small farms and large agricultural producers.

One of the key discussion points was how GUARDIANS moves beyond initial consultation to sustain meaningful engagement through structured dialogue. The project actively integrates stakeholder feedback at every development stage, ensuring farmers’ real-world challenges directly shape solutions. Equally important is demonstrating how their input leads to tangible improvements, reinforcing that their expertise drives genuine change.

GUARDIANS proves that effective rural innovation starts with real farmer engagement. The project shows how digital solutions must be co-created with end users from design to implementation. The key lies in continuous feedback loops: farmers see their input shaping the tools, while transparent reporting demonstrates how each idea leads to concrete improvements. This participatory model shows technology works best when adapted to field realities. The session concluded that by making stakeholders active participants in discussions, it is possible to develop more useful tools while building trust and adoption.

This event offered valuable moments of dialogue and opportunities to foster synergies with similar projects, like FUTURAL, encouraging knowledge exchange and joint ambition.
